When cancelling Heavy Melee with any of the four active items1) that are able to cancel Heavy Melee, you are able to start another punch immediately by holding the melee key after the cancel.. This results in two Heavy Melee punches (displayed as one long punch) which results in you covering double the regular distance. This is called a Heavy Melee Cancel Extension2).
This allows you to cancel the recovery phase and turn again, making it useful in tight spaces. It can also be used as bait, either parry-baiting enemies or tricking them into thinking that your Heavy Melee is about to end.
To execute, keep holding melee (by default Q) when you cancel the Heavy Melee with the active item.
