Strafe Dashing1) is any air dash in which you dash at an angle to your current velocity. There are multiple different ways of Strafe Dashing, suited for different scenarios.

When Dashing normally, your directional speed is the dot product of your velocity and air dash direction. Your directional speed is capped by a speed cap of a base of ~700 u/s and ~900 with the Vitality Icon Vitality item Superior Stamina ( 3,500).

The speed cap limits the speed you can head in and hampers movement, but only applies to movement in the same direction as your current velocity. By dashing at an angle to your current velocity, your air dash will add to your speed beyond the speed cap. This is called a Strafe Dash.

When under the speed cap, Strafe Dashing has a minimal effect. When over the speed cap, Strafe Dashing helps alleviate the slowdown when dashing forwards.

Strafe Dashing can be done two ways:

1. Sideways 2. Forwards
By turning to an angle then dashing to the side in the opposite direction, you can execute a Strafe Dash. By doing this, you will not need to air strafe back to your intended direction, since you are now heading in that direction. This method is more suited for higher speeds, such as when using Zipline Momentum Cancel. By turning to an angle then dashing forwards, then air strafing back to a forward direction, you can execute a Strafe Dash. The air strafe does not add speed; it only redirects you in the correct direction. This method is better suited for lower speeds, such as from a walk.

The optimal angle to Strafe Dash depends on your current velocity.

  • At lower speeds, an angle of ~50 degrees is optimal.
  • From a base dash jump, an angle of ~45 degrees is optimal.
  • At higher speeds, make the air dash angle closer to perpendicular for the optimal Strafe Dash.
